Ali graduated from Loy Norrix High School in 1972, where he had a successful high school athletic career that included participation in both football and track and field. It was at Michigan State University that he also became acquainted with Deborah Coufal, the woman who would go on to become the love of his life. His most recent employment, Ventra, provided him with the opportunity to spend the last ten years of his career in the automotive industry working in Quality Control. Throughout his entire life, Ali had a strong interest in sports and played golf on a regular basis. In addition, he enjoyed spending time with his friends playing poker and spending time with his family playing board games like Rummy and Yahtzee.

On November 24, 1978, Deborah became his wife, and ever since that day, the two of them have been inseparable. Deborah and her husband are still together. The pair made the Thousand Islands, which are located in New York, their home away from home and spent a lot of time together partaking in activities that they both enjoyed, such as antiquing and traveling the islands.
