Amelia Sousa Obituary, Death – Amelia M. (Ferreira) Sousa, 78, of Lowell, Massachusetts, passed away in a calm and peaceful manner on Wednesday, December 7, 2022, at Lowell General Hospital, surrounded by her family members. She was the devoted wife of Luis F. Sousa, with whom she had spent the past fifty-nine years of her married life. Theirs was a long and happy marriage. She was born on November 26, 1944 in Sao Miguel, Azores, Portugal. She received her upbringing and education in Sao Miguel, as she was the daughter of the late Luis M. Ferreira and the late Maria de Jesus (Raposo) Ferreira. She moved to Lowell, Massachusetts, with her family in September of 1993, shortly after arriving in the United States of America. Up until the time of her retirement, she was employed by E.M.A. Services as an assembler.

She loved attending services at St. Anthony’s Church, where her son, Deacon Carlos, served as an officiant, and she was a devout communicant of the church. She prayed the rosary every day. The church and her family were the most important things in her life, and she cherished the time she could spend with her offspring and grandchildren. She was a fantastic cook, and she always made sure to treat her family to a meal whenever she saw them.

She is survived by her daughter Cidalia Tavares and her husband Paulo, along with their children Gary and Derek Tavares, all of Lowell; her son Luis DeSousa and his child Raquel DeSousa, of Fall River; her son Silvino Sousa and his wife Elisbete, along with their children Roberto, Ruben, and Ronaldo Sousa, all of Lowell; and her son Deacon Carlos DeSousa and his wife Eliza In addition, she is survived by her sister, Leontina Pereira, who resides in Canada, as well as a large number of nieces and nephews. Her siblings Jose M. Ferreira and Maria da Gloria Silva, both of whom passed away previously, came before her death.

Donations in lieu of flowers can be sent to the St. Anthony Church, which is located at 893 Central Street, Lowell, Massachusetts 01852. On the Saturday, December 10, 2022, her calling hours will be held at ST. ANTHONY’S CHURCH, 893 Central Street, Lowell, from 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., and her funeral mass will be held at 12:30 p.m. in the church. Anyone who would like to attend is more than welcome to do so. After the procession, the burial will take place at St. Mary Cemetery.
