Bernice Painter Obituary, Death – Bernice Alma Painter (nee: Grannemann), who resided in Marthasville, Missouri, passed away on Friday, December 2, 2022 at her residence in the company of her family. She was born in Holstein, Missouri, on March 28, 1943, to the late Alfred and Erna (nee: Hackmann) Grannemann. Her parents have now passed away. Bernice’s 79th year had arrived at this point in her life. Bernice had spent her entire life in Warren County, where she was a lifelong resident. On September 19, 1964 in Holstein, the ceremony that legally joined her to Robert Otto Painter took place.
Linda was the only child to emerge from this marriage. Bernice was also a member of Immanuel United Church of Christ, Holstein, for her entire life. She participated in a variety of church activities over the years, including coordinating the annual cooking of apple butter, singing in the church choir, acting as a typist for the history book, being a member and officer for the Women’s Fellowship, and teaching and serving in officer roles for Sunday School.
She worked at Binkley and at Thierbach Orchards Market over the course of her career, among other places of employment. But being a committed stay-at-home mother was by far her favorite job she ever had. Bernice’s heart was always in the right place, whether it was with her own family or the countless others she helped as a Meals on Wheels volunteer for many years. Bernice was another person who had a lifelong interest in quilting. She enjoyed quilting on Mondays with the church quilters and was a frequent participant in Quilts of Valor events. In addition to quilting at home, she participated in these events.
Bernice was a wife, mother, sister, and friend to a great number of people in addition to being a loving and devoted Christian. Her parents, Alfred and Erna Grannemann, as well as three of her brothers-in-law, Pete Meyer, Russell Brockfeld, and Kenneth Painter, passed away before Bernice Painter. She is survived by her husband of 58 years, her daughter Linda Earney and her husband Dale, her two sisters Janis Brockfeld and Rosalie Petersmeyer and her husband Derrold, her sister in law Virginia Painter, as well as a number of nieces, nephews, other relatives, and a large number of friends.
