David Alexander Obituary, Death – David Blake Alexander, 57 years old, passed away suddenly on Tuesday, November 29th, 2022, due to unavoidable natural causes. He was surrounded by his friends and the sea. David was the youngest of three boys and the only boy to be born on the 23rd of December in Savannah, Georgia. He attended Windsor Forest High School and graduated with the class of 1983. He is originally from the Southside neighborhood of Savannah. He was an avid participant in golf, hunting, fishing, and other outdoor activities, and he never met a body of water that he didn’t want to cast his line into at some point.
During his childhood, he participated in a wide variety of sports, and he later went on to play golf for the Armstrong State College team. He continued his education by enrolling in classes at a few of the local colleges, but the national certification he earned from Texas A&M was the one he was most pleased with. After that, he would always talk about himself as an honorary Aggie! David wed his soul mate Jackie in 1992, and since then the two of them have worked together to create a life that they both adore. Together, they brought up their two children, Jordan and Blake, whom he cherished more than his own life itself. David made friends wherever he went thanks to the contagious quality of his laugh and smile.
He had a remarkable ability to connect with people, share himself, and evoke that same spirit of love in each and every person he knew thanks to his larger-than-life personality. After 32 years of dedicating his life to assisting military families in his role as golf course superintendent at Hunter Army Air Field, he decided to retire. He pursued his interest in golf by taking a job at the La Vida Country Club, of which he had been a member for his entire life and which he frequently referred to as the La Vida National.
He is survived by his loving wife of 30 years, Jackie Cooley Alexander; his children, Jordan Claire Alexander Gardner (Andrew), and David Blake Alexander II (Amanda); his grandson, Ellis Blake Alexander; his mother, Carol Powell Kemp; his brothers, Francis Marion Alexander Jr. (Sarah), and Barry Keith Alexander (Traci); and a large number of sisters-in-law, brothers-in-law, nieces, nephews, and cousins. He passed away on April 15, 2019. David’s biological father, Francis Marion Alexander, as well as his stepfather, Carlton Rudolph Kemp, his father-in-law, Jackie Earl Cooley, and his mother-in-law, Barbara Virginia Cooley, all passed away before him.
On Friday, December 2, from 5 to 8 o’clock in the evening, friends and family are invited to visit with the family at Gamble Funeral Service Home, located at 410 Stephenson Avenue in Savannah, Georgia. The Reverends Nathan Godley and Barry Giddens will preside over the funeral service that will take place on Saturday, December 3, at 10:30 a.m., at the White Bluff United Methodist Church located at 11911 White Bluff Road in Savannah, Georgia 31419. The following individuals will serve as pallbearers: Barry Shuman, Greg Clayton, Timmy Craft, Jeff Hagan, and Doug and Bobby Rains. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the PGA HOPE: Helping Our Patriots Everywhere organization at pgareach.org.
