He was not only a founding member of the ANSWER Team but also a local legend for those who live in Ocean Grove We wish to express our sincere condolences to you on the demise of David Shotwell. Not only was he a founding member of the ANSWER Team, but he was also considered a local legend by the people who lived in Ocean Grove.
It breaks our hearts to have to tell you about his passing; please know that our sympathies are with you during this difficult time. David, in addition to possessing a wide variety of other skills, devoted a sizeable portion of his life to working in the field of maritime rescue during the course of his career. This work took place during the course of David’s career. This task consumed a substantial amount of his time, both professionally and personally. It was a huge distraction for him. He was a member of the United States Lifesaving Association and worked in a variety of capacities related to water and aquatic environments, including as a lifeguard, supervisor, and swim instructor.
In addition, he served on the board of directors of the United States Lifesaving Association. In addition to that, he held a certification in the field of water rescue. He spent most of his working life in or close to the water in some capacity. His contributions to the methods and procedures that are used in ocean rescues have without a doubt been responsible for saving a significant number of lives, and they will without a doubt continue to do so as his teachings are passed down through generations of lifeguards and professionals working in the field of water rescue.
