Donald Zornes Obituary, Death – Donald H. Zornes, who was 83 years old and had previously lived in Columbus, passed away on December 1, 2022 in Gretna, Nebraska. The funeral service, known as a Mass of Christian Burial, will be held at St. Bonaventure Catholic Church in Columbus on Wednesday, December 7, 2022, at 10:30 a.m. At the McKown Funeral Home on Tuesday, visitation will be held from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m., and the vigil service will begin at 7:00 p.m. Visitation will take place at St. Bonaventure Church again on Wednesday morning from 9:30 a.m. until 10:30 a.m. The burial will take place in All Saints Cemetery. Instead of sending flowers or plants, the family requests that memorial contributions be made to the Columbus Community Hospital Foundation.

Donald H. Zornes was the only child of Vern S. and Carrie O. (Kvam) Zornes and was born on September 8, 1939 in the city of Minneapolis, Minnesota. He spent his childhood in Minneapolis, where he graduated from Patrick Henry High School, and then continued his education at the University of Minnesota, where he received both his Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees. After beginning his medical career at the Charles T. Miller Hospital in St. Paul, Minnesota, Don later worked at the Johns Hopkins Hospital in Baltimore, Maryland. In October of 1968, he made the move to Lincoln, Nebraska, where he participated in the completion of the St. Elizabeth Hospital that is located at its current location. Don relocated to Columbus in 1979, and from that year until his retirement in 2002, he was the Chief Executive Officer of the Columbus Community Hospital. He was in charge of supervising the significant expansion of the previous hospital as well as the subsequent construction and completion of the new hospital.

At a ceremony held on October 26, 1963 in Faribault, Minnesota, Don wed Clarissa A. Caron. Don was a recipient of the Archway Award from the Chamber of Commerce and the J.G. Elliott Award from UNMC, both of which were presented to him in recognition of his efforts to support rural hospitals and medical care. He was also a member of the American Hospital Association. Don was a fan of many different sports and played golf with great passion. He was a huge fan of both the Golden Gophers and the Huskers.

Clarisse Zornes, Don’s wife, of Lincoln, is one of the people he leaves behind. Diane Semrad, the daughter of Lincoln’s Semrad. New Orleans, Louisiana native Ronald Zornes Son 2 Grandchildren: Dillon Semrad (who is married to Emma) of Wilber, Nebraska, and Tabitha Semrad (who is engaged to Luke Nielsen) of Omaha, Nebraska. His mother and father passed away before he was born.
