Ellen Laymon Obituary, Death –  Ellen Marie (Gebhart) Laymon, age 87, passed away at Lutheran Hospital in Fort Wayne, Indiana on November 27, 2022. She was a resident of Warren, Indiana. Mrs. Laymon received her degree in education from Indiana University in Bloomington. She attended Warren High School and graduated with honors. She was a school teacher in Fort Wayne, she worked as a cashier in Las Vegas, Nevada, and she worked at Citizen’s Telephone Corporation in Warren alongside her husband. In addition to her bridge club, she was a member of the Chautauqua Club and the Gingham Gals.

She had been a member of the United Church of Christ in Warren her entire life, and she was actively involved in the church’s ministry by carrying out activities such as helping to raise money for the new youth room and engaging in outreach. Baking was her hobby, and she indulged her many friends with delicious pies, cookies, and other treats that she created in the kitchen. She had a heart that was both generous and kind, and she assisted a great number of families.

In recognition of her contributions to the community in 2020, the Samuel Jones Award was bestowed upon her. Ellen adored her grandchildren. She spent a lot of time and energy traveling to and from their extracurricular activities because she thoroughly enjoyed showing her support for them in everything they did while they were growing up.
She cherished every moment she was able to spend with her three great grandchildren, Ezra, Maya, and Isaac. Their time together was treated as something very precious.
On March 16, 1935, she was born to her parents, Elijah A. Gebhart and Evelyn Ruth (Holmes) Gebhart, both of whom had passed away before she was born.

On August 9, 1959, she tied the knot with Gordon L. Laymon in the Warren United Church of Christ. In addition, he passed away before her, as did her younger sister Barbara Sue, who passed away when she was a baby. Surviving family members include a son, Neil A. Laymon (and his wife Wendy), of Warren; grandchildren Sierra (Jake) Rosenberger, of Columbia City, IN, and Noah (Veronika) Laymon, of Noblesville, IN; a sister, Nancy J. Smyth, of Warren, IN; and three great grandchildren named Ezra, Maya, and Isaac.
