Garvin Roberson Obituary, Death -Garvin Roberson, the brother of Elkhart Mayor Rod Roberson, was found dead inside his submerged vehicle, according to the Elkhart County Sheriff’s Office. Officers from the Michigan State Police located his 2022 Honda CRV close to Sturgis, near White School Road and Fawn River Road. The vehicle was in the water when it was found. The sheriff’s office reports that Roberson was found dead inside the vehicle.

Michigan State Police are now in charge of the investigation. We have been hoping all week for my brother Garvin’s safe return, so we are devastated to hear of his passing. His family and fiancĂ©e Deb are very grateful for your prayers and support at this trying time. We have felt the love of this entire neighborhood. We want to express our gratitude to all law enforcement personnel for their professionalism and tenacity during the search for Garvin.

He would receive a small stack of them. You could see him stand there and scratch them off. He would check to see if he had won anything and then proceed to the office to buy a few more. My father was raised in Elkhart and attended Central High School. Garvin was a mentor and a coach to my dad back then. Therefore, my family is having a hard time as well. Yeah. We all loved him.”

Elkhart County resident Marc Stahl added the following: “To begin with, I want to express my condolences to the family, especially at this time of year. Given that the mayor lost his brother, I feel terrible for him. It’s a tragic situation that probably didn’t need to happen. You start to question what happened. Has he become lost? Or did he get lost? Was he confused? I’m not certain.” For the entire state, Roberson’s Silver Alert has been canceled.
