Gary R. Turner Obituary, Death – On November 30, 2022, Gary R. Turner, age 68, passed away and went to be with Jesus. On September 30th, 1954, Gary entered the world in Grove City. He was the son of W. Richard Turner and Betty Turner Donaldson, both of whom predeceased him. It was in 1972 when he received his diploma from Franklin Area High School. Gary was the owner of the Turner Insurance Agency, Inc. in Harrisville, which he began working at in 1974 alongside his mother, Betty, to manage. In 1982, he and Wendy acquired ownership of the agency.

He cultivated it and was in charge of it until 2018 when Abbie and Cara bought it from him and his wife. He was overjoyed that the agency would soon be passed down to the third generation of the family. He had a sincere concern for each and every one of his customers and made it a priority to provide honest and reliable service to them. Gary had a deep passion for helping people and a strong belief in the importance of giving back. He began his career in Harrisville as a volunteer fireman and went on to serve as the mayor of Harrisville for seven years. In addition to that, he was a respected member of the Grove City Rotary Club and had served on the boards of the Grove City Area Chamber of Commerce and the Grove City YMCA.

Gary cherished spending time with his family, which often included vacations to the beach. His favorite location was the North Myrtle Beach area in South Carolina. He enjoyed racing sports cars, going on motorcycle rides, and going on hunting trips. In his later years, he cherished the time he got to spend with his grandchildren the most. He attended the Christ’s Covenant Church in Harrisville and was a member there.

Gary’s wife Wendy (Lowers) Turner, whom he wed in 1975, is the only person he leaves behind after his death. In addition, he is survived by his mother, Betty Turner Donaldson of Mercer, his sister Jill and her husband Daniel Joseph Kellogg of Slippery Rock, and his brother Jay and his wife Carol Turner of Powell, Ohio. He is also survived by his four grandchildren, Madison Michael, Landon Michael, Nora Hastings, and Nolan Hastings. His daughters Abbie Turner Michael and husband Luke of Grove City and Cara Turner Hastings and husband Isaac of Harrisville are also among those who carry Gary’s passing was preceded by that of his stepfather Wayne Donaldson, as well as his biological father W. Richard Turner and his sister Amy Turner Bryan.

The family would appreciate it if you would think about contributing to the continuation of his legacy by writing down a memory, telling a story, or expressing how much he meant to you. You are welcome to hand them over in person, or you can send an email to gturner@turnerinsurance.com with the information. The recollections are going to be written up into a book.
