Gregory Flenory Obituary Death – Gregory Frederick Flenory, a resident of Visalia, California, fought a valiant struggle against cancer until his passing on Thursday, November 17, 2022. Greg was the son of Sam and Willie Ann Flenory and was born on September 22nd, 1957 in the city of Long Beach, in the state of California. When I was quite young, my family relocated to Visalia. He earned his diploma from Redwood High school, where he was a standout on the football and track teams. After graduating from College of the Sequoias in 1982 with a degree in Physical Education, he continued his track career at both College of the Sequoias and California State University, Hayward, where he earned his degree.
He began his career in education at Visalia Unified, where he worked both as a teacher and a coach. Over the course of the following 34 years, he coached and taught at a variety of schools, including Golden West High School, Divisadero Junior High, Redwood High School, Clovis High School, and lastly El Diamante High School, where he served as Athletic Director until 2017. After he retired, he continued his coaching career by taking positions at The College of Sequoias, El Diamante, and Redwood. During his career as a coach, he worked with athletes in a variety of sports, including soccer, wrestling, track & field, and cross country.
Greg was honored with many accolades throughout his life, including Athletic Director of the Year for the CIF Central Section, the Norman Mackenzie Award for the State of California, and perhaps most notably, he was an inaugural inductee into the El Diamante Hall of Fame. These are just a few of Greg’s many accolades. Greg and Stacy Shuman were married in 1983, and during their time together, they produced three children and five grandkids. He would proudly tell you that his children and grandkids were his greatest achievements, and that the title of “Papa” was the highest honor he had ever received.
Greg enjoyed working in his garden, hosting dinner parties, and spending quality time with his family. His work ethic was unparalleled, and he constantly found a way to cram “one more thing” into his schedule. His back porch was always open for guests to relax with a cigar and a drink, and his table was constantly surrounded by members of his family and other friends. Both in his heart and in his home, the welcome sign was prominently displayed at all times. Greg’s parents, brother Lamar, sisters Katie and Lynn, and daughter Dominique “Kiki” Flenory all passed away before him. Greg is the only member of his immediate family to survive.
He is survived by his wife Stacy, sons Nicholas and Alexander Flenory, sisters Carol Patrick, Renia Hungerford, Sonia McLain, Joyce Flenory, Lillie Flenory, and Tanya Flenory, brother Allen Flenory, grandchildren Alianna, Kamden, Axton, and Sawyer Flenory, and Atticus Conwell, as well as a large number of cherished nieces, nephews, and bonus children and grandchildren. On Tuesday, November 29, 2022, at 10:30 a.m., a memorial ceremony will be held at the Visalia First Church of the Nazarene, which is located at 3333 W. Caldwell Avenue, Visalia, California 93277. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you kindly consider making a donation to the Kiki Flenory scholarship fund at the El Diamante High School Miner Foundation. The Salser & Dillard Funeral Chapel will be in charge of the services to be held.
