Harold Hunter Obituary, Death – Harold “Hal” Hunter, 75 years old, of The Villages, Florida, passed away in a calm and peaceful manner on November 24, 2022, surrounded by his loved ones and family. Oklahoma City, Oklahoma is where Hal was born and raised. Following his graduation from high school, he enlisted in the Navy and served with honor for a total of six years. During his time in the military, he saw service on both the USS Patrick Henry and the USS Clamagore. He wed the woman who would become the love of his life, Mary, on September 4, 1971, and the happy couple raised their two children, Margaret “Muffy” Hunter-Smith of Clarksburg, Maryland, and Scott Hunter of Old Lyme, Connecticut, in Old Lyme.
During his time in Old Lyme, he was employed at the Millstone Nuclear Powerplant for more than three decades and assisted Mary in the operation of the Rogers Lake Liquor Store for more than twenty years. The year 2005 marked the beginning of Hal and Mary’s retirement in The Villages, Florida. After Hal retired, he took up golfing as a serious hobby and also enjoyed fishing and reading in his spare time.
His wife, Mary, his children Scott and Muffy, and his three grandchildren, Ethan, Sean, and Katherine will carry on his legacy after he has passed away. Hal will be deeply missed, and our memories of him will be forever. Hal wished for a memorial service to be performed in his honor as a celebration of his life. At 11:30 a.m. on December 9 at the Hiers-Baxley Funeral Home in The Villages, Florida, we would like to invite Hal’s family and friends to join us in honoring the wonderful life that Hal lived. In lieu of flowers, we ask that you make a contribution to the cause(s) of your choice.
