James Thomas Dowd, a St. Charles, Illinois resident, died on Wednesday, December 7, 2022, at the age of 40, following a brief battle with kidney disease. At the time of his death, he was surrounded by his family. He will be remembered and loved forever for his kindness, sense of humor, empathy, and graciousness.
On February 27, 1982, in Nuremberg, Germany, retired Army Colonel William C. James welcomed his first child into the world.
He is Donna W. Dowd’s son. He graduated from St. Charles High School and then went on to the University of Chicago, where he earned a degree in Economics and Public Policy. He was an outstanding student and athlete both in the classroom and on the football field, where he was an offensive lineman all the way through college. James leaves an incredible legacy of kindness, intelligence, compassion, and loyalty, which his devoted family and legion of devoted friends will carry on. James was a die-hard fan of several sports teams, including the Chicago Bears, Chicago Cubs, Notre Dame, and Army. His sharp wit and passion for sports were well known. Many people referred to him as a “dog whisperer” because of his extraordinary devotion to animals in general, but especially to his dogs Georgiana Halas “Hallie” (who has since passed away) and Piccolo “Picc.”

White, James’ paternal grandfather, and Ralph “Poppo” White, James’ maternal grandfather, both died before James was born. in addition to Michael Dowd’s aunt Helena and Helena’s uncle Michael His brother William “Patrick” Dowd and sister Meghann Dowd survive him, as well as his maternal grandmother Margaret “Mamie” White, aunts Margaret LaDuca, Catherine Brown (Godmother), and Suzanne Watts and their spouses, uncles Ralph White and Thomas White (Godfather), 12 cousins and their families, and countless lifelong friends. All of his loved ones will miss him terribly.
