John Hobbs Obituary, Death – We are sorry to inform you of the recent passing of one of our own, Dr. John “Jack” Hobbs Jr., who passed away in Dewitt, Michigan. The news of his passing was delivered with a heaviness in the heart. We used to refer to Jack as “Doc” when he worked as a police officer for the Klamath Falls Police Department from the years 1990 until 2007. During that time, Jack served in that department. He gave back to our community by working as a reserve police officer and by volunteering his services as a Tactical Emergency Medical Service (TEMS) operator for Klamath Falls SWAT. Both of these are examples of how he served our community. The people in our community are thankful to him.
Doc Hobbs was one of the first people to sign up for the KFPD Reserve Program when it first started. When Doc wasn’t attending to patients at his medical practice, he volunteered his services as a medic for the SWAT team and accompanied full-time law enforcement officers on routine patrols. After a couple of months had passed since our last conversation, Doc called to offer his congratulations on my graduation from the FBI National Academy.
Since then, we have not engaged in any further communication with one another. I always got one of those things, so I knew I could count on Doc to send me a birthday card each year or the occasional email to catch up after he left our department. I knew I could count on him to do either of those things because I always got them. Doc Hobbs was an incredible person, and the members of our department who were fortunate enough to have worked alongside him will undoubtedly grieve his passing. We want to thank you from the bottom of our hearts for the time and effort that you have put into serving the KFPD and the community. We want to express our gratitude to you from the very bottom of our hearts. You will not be forgotten under any circumstances. I look forward to our next encounter…
