At the age of 87, John Lee “Johnny” Riggs passed away on Wednesday, December 7, 2022, at the Baptist Health Hardin facility located in Elizabethtown. He called the town of Hodgenville his home. Over the course of more than half a century, he was employed as a cattle hauler. He was also an avid hunter, but what he enjoyed most was spending time with his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. He devoted his entire life to farming. Johnny Riggs was predeceased by his spouse, Marc Meadows, as well as his two daughters, Joanna Elaine Riggs and Janetta Lee Riggs, as well as his parents, Charles and Anna Reeves Riggs.
In addition, Johnny was preceded in death by five of his siblings. These five siblings were his sisters Lucilla Scott, Marvella Aubrey, Lillias McKeen, Mary Hodge, and Lois Ann Wheeler, and his brothers Clifford, Creston, and Lois Ann Wheeler. Those who were left behind to remember him include his wife, Alice Leevey Riggs; two daughters, Danita Riggs of Hodgenville and Angela Hyatt (Les) of Lebanon; a son, Johnny Riggs (Marie) of Hodgenville; two sisters, Patricia Riggs of Lebanon and Mary Edith (Ed) Hood of Willisburg; four brothers, Carle (Janice) Riggs of Hodgenville, Earl (Julie)
The funeral services are scheduled to start at eleven o’clock in the morning. On Tuesday, December 13, Carle Riggs and her sister Sis were present at the Bennett-Bertram Funeral Home in Hodgenville. Shirley Carter acted as the event’s host and presided over the gathering. The burial will take place at the Red Hill Cemetery immediately following the funeral services. Visitation is permitted from two in the afternoon until eight in the evening. She worked at the funeral home on Mondays and after nine in the morning on Tuesdays while she was employed there.
