Kathy Mahaffey Obituary, Death – We regret to inform you of the death of Kathy Mahaffey, our long-serving Commissioner. Please keep her family and friends in your thoughts and prayers. Kathy adored the holiday season, which she will share with Jesus this year. Kathy, you are our hero. RIP, we’ll take it from here. We’ll provide more information as soon as we obtain it. Katherine “Kathy” Burckel Mehaffey passed away, surrounded by her loving family. Kathy made a commitment to God and her family. She was a woman who valued intellectual thought and dialogue and cultivated an inquisitive disposition.

She encouraged, led, and actively participated in the People of Praise Christian Community for 41 years, and she was a member of St Catherine of Siena Catholic Church for 38 years. Kathy worked as a housewife, a schoolteacher, an author, an interior designer, an artist, a mother, a confidante, and many people’s sister. She was usually full of encouraging words, astute observations, and thoughtful knowledge to share. She was born in New Orleans, attended Mandeville High School, and graduated from Southeastern University with a bachelor’s degree in 1973.

Her thirst for knowledge led her to earn a master’s degree from UNO and an interior design diploma from Delgado Community College. Lloyd, her husband of 41 years, survives her, as do her children, Danny (Christina), Kathleen (Ben), Stacy (Earl), Emily (Jeff), Shannon (Joe), and Megan, as well as her siblings, Floyd (Virginia), Janet (Glen), Peggy (Steve), David (Judy), and Julie, and her grandchildren, Madeline, Justin, Gabriel, Audrey, Brendan, Anne Marie, Emma, Adley Her parents.

Floyd and Vera Burckel, her in-laws, William C and Mary Jane Mehaffey, and three grandchildren have joined her in heaven. Kathy’s family will hold an open memorial service on Friday, July 29th, 2022, from 7:00 PM to 8:30 PM, at St. Catherine of Siena Catholic Church, 105 Bonnabel Blvd., Metairie, LA. A viewing will begin at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, July 30th, 2022, followed by words of remembering at 11:45 a.m., and a Mass at 12:00 p.m. at St Catherine of Siena Church. The final resting place will be Greenwood Cemetery.
