Kevin Davis Obituary, Death – According to police, a 15-year-old boy died Tuesday afternoon after being shot near a high school in the Austin neighborhood. The boy was near a sidewalk when he was hit by gunfire at 3:16 p.m. The incident happened in the 5100 block of West Harrison Street, near Michele Clark Academic Prep Magnet High School, according to police. He was taken to Stroger Hospital in critical condition, according to police, and later pronounced dead.

The boy, identified as Kevin Davis by the Cook County medical examiner’s office, was a student at the school, said Chicago police 15th District Cmdr. Andre Parham during a press conference Tuesday evening. “This is a calamity. I’ve had this job for 22 years and it’s not getting any easier. “You don’t want anything bad to happen to children,” Parham explained. Police do not know how the after-dismissal shooting occurred or whether other students were present when shots were fired, according to the commander. The investigation into the fatal attack is still ongoing.

Despite the fact that no one had been arrested earlier Tuesday, police are working with nearby businesses, faith groups, and other institutions to identify the shooter, according to Parham. According to Parham, anyone with information about the fatal shooting should contact police. “If you have any information, no matter how big or small,” he said, adding that “no stone will be left unturned in this investigation.” “Please understand that if you endanger one of our children in this city, we will track you down and prosecute you,” he said.”

According to Jadine Chou, CPS Chief of Safety and Security, the school will increase security on Wednesday and bring in crisis support for grief counseling, as well as community partners to assist staff. “Michele Clark is one of our shining stars.” We are looking for district leadership at this school on Austin’s West Side. “It’s something we don’t notice,” Chou said. When asked by reporters what changes had been made in the aftermath of an August shooting near the school that injured three teens, including two students, Chou said CPS makes safety improvements after shootings and emphasized that Michele Clark is a safe school.

The school community mourned after basketball star and student Kierra Moore was shot and killed in Lawndale in October 2021. In an article titled “A Chicago High School Reopens, With Fears of Gun Violence,” The New Yorker profiled the school after it reopened after an 18-month closure due to COVID, students discussed their encounters with and fears of neighborhood violence. According to a Michele Clark receptionist, the school was unable to comment on the shooting and death at this time.
