Linda Meyer Obituary, Death – Linda L. Meyer, 76, of Shepherd, died unexpectedly in Detroit Henry Ford Hospital on Friday, December 2, 2022. Linda Recker was born on February 8, 1946, in Mt. Pleasant, Michigan, to Bob and Dorothy Recker (Diehl). She grew up on their dairy farm in Shepherd and went to a one-room schoolhouse down the road. Linda Meyer met her future husband, Vincent Meyer, at Shepherd High School in 1964. After high school, she went to Northwood University to study business. She married Vince in 1965, and they had three daughters.
Linda was a dedicated mother when her daughters were small, spending summer days at the pool and endless hours in the kitchen preparing delicious meals. Vince and Linda became co-owners of the local Village Market grocery shop with Vince’s brother Larry and cousin Art in the mid 1980s. Linda had a good time running the market with her sister-in-law Elaine and Art’s wife, Ruthann. For many years, she spent countless hours preparing bread, cinnamon buns, handmade sandwiches, and soup for her customers. She then worked as an office manager at Mt. Pleasant Supply for over 20 years.
Linda enjoyed sewing, reading, cooking, and wandering around Shepherd with her friends Kay and Micki. Linda’s husband of 57 years, Vince, and their three children, Chris Casper (Ed), Anne McKinney (Dan), and Katie Martin, survive her (Brian). Jory Casper (Becca), Kortney Casper (Devon), Nathen Casper (Nikole), Avery McKinney, Ella McKinney, Sophie Martin, Macy Martin, Cooper Martin, and her two cats survive her (Minnie and Flash). Her parents preceded her in death.
Linda valued her family, friends, neighbors, and, most importantly, her grandchildren. She enjoyed going on family trips with them, attending their sporting activities and performances, and indulging them with their favorite delicacies. Linda was also the type of person who would do everything for anyone. She was a compassionate and generous role model who had a wonderful impact on those around her. She will be missed much.
Linda’s funeral will be held at St. Vincent de Paul Church on Tuesday, December 6, at 11 a.m., with Father Fred Kawka officiating. On Monday, December 5, from 4 to 8 p.m., there will be a visitation at St. Vincent de Paul, followed by a scriptural service at 7 p.m.
Donations to the American Heart Association in Linda’s memory would be welcomed in place of flowers. Berry Funeral Home in Shepherd has been entrusted with the arrangements.
