Meredith Smith Obituary, Death – On the evening of November 27, 2022, in Burlington, North Carolina, an unexpected death occurred involving Meredith Smith. Meredith was born on December 17th, 1986, at Union Memorial Hospital in Baltimore, Maryland, to her doting parents, Janice and Joel Legin. Meredith’s parents have always been very supportive of her. Everyone quickly realized that Meredith could steal the show with her cutting sense of humor, captivating personality, and endless dancing even when she was quite young. Meredith immediately gained a playmate and a close friend in the form of her younger sister Caroline when she was born.

Meredith’s previous residences include London, Cleveland, and Cincinnati in addition to Baltimore. In 2005, she received her diploma from Cincinnati Hills Christian Academy, and then she went on to study at Elon University in Burlington, North Carolina. It was during her first year at Elon that she became acquainted with the man who would later become her husband, Kyle Smith. It was a sign from the universe when she discovered that Kyle was from Baltimore as well. This meant that he knew that the Ravens were the best football team and that he could recognize a good crab cake when he saw one.

It was impossible to deny the love that Kyle had for Meredith, and it was the kind of love that makes you wish you had a partner in life who could grant you such good fortune. During her time at college, Meredith worked as a tour guide, cheered at all of Kyle’s rugby games, and was a member of the Sigma Kappa sorority. It was in this organization that she met her “ten,” a group of people who would become her closest friends for the rest of her life.

Soon after graduation, Kyle and Meredith tied the knot at The Carolina Inn in Chapel Hill, and shortly after that, they started construction on their first house in the Elon area. Meredith earned her master’s degree in business administration from the Love School of Business after working in the admissions office at Elon University for a period of twelve years, a position that she genuinely cherished and which provided her with a great deal.

Both of Kyle and Meredith’s sons, Brody Camden (now 8 years old) and Landon Foster (4 years old), are very handsome (5). Meredith was a typical parent in that she devoted her evenings and weekends to her children’s extracurricular activities such as karate, basketball, swimming, and soccer. Meredith volunteered her time at St. Mark’s Community Church, planned the next great theme for her friends’ Burlington Cocktail Club, and traveled to some of her favorite places, which almost always included a beach. When she wasn’t cheering from the sidelines, she was planning the next great theme for her friends’ Burlington Cocktail Club.

Meredith was extremely thoughtful, as evidenced by the fact that she always sent the ideal card or personal gift. She could make you laugh with her sarcasm, she made the best orange crushes and party playlists (always including our family’s favorite, Motown music), she enjoyed running and walking her dogs, discovering new places, beer, and food, and most importantly, she enjoyed spending time with her family and friends. She had a passion for life and she embraced every moment of it.

Meredith is survived by her wonderful husband Kyle and their sons Brody and Landon; her parents Janice and Joel Legin of Ponte Vedra Beach, Florida; her sister and brother-in-law, Caroline and Grayson Patterson, of Erie, Pennsylvania; Kyle’s parents Dale and Al Smith of Burlington, North Carolina; and sister- and brother-in-law Alison and Travis Upton and their children Madisyn, Camryn, and Bennett, also of Burlington, North Carolina

On Saturday, December 3, at three o’clock in the afternoon, there will be a Celebration of Life service held at St. Mark’s Community Church in Burlington, North Carolina.
