According to a post on Facebook posted by Aftab Hasan – I must inform you, with great sadness, that my dear friend and close old-time associate Rodney Henry James Skeet, whom many of you must have met along with me at most of the events, has died. After a long battle with cancer, he died today. For me, losing a devoted colleague, devoted friend, and wonderful family member is a huge irreplaceable personal loss. Nobody can predict how someone will influence your life.
He was a pleasant coworker and an important part of my work life for nearly two decades, until his illness. We went on business trips to many different countries. He lost his voice after being diagnosed with stage four laryngeal cancer in Dubai in 2020. He sought treatment at Apollo Hospital India, where he had surgery to restore his voice. I recall him calling me from India to tell me that I had defeated cancer and was now cancer-free. He was released and remained symptom-free for nearly a year before the deadly disease relapsed two months later. He lost confidence this time because, according to the latest report, it had spread throughout his body and doctors were unable to save his life any longer. As a result, I chose palliative care in a posh nursing home staffed by professionals.
Every day, early in the morning, I was in constant contact with him, trying to send motivational messages through WhatsApp while thinking about the deadly end result of the trauma he had to endure. I was concerned when he did not respond to my message this morning. While I waited for his response, I learned that my friend Rodney had died in a nursing home. He was a charming soul and an adorable husband who cared for his bedridden wife Grete without complaint or complaint for nearly two decades until she died five years ago. Even though he remembered Grete fondly after her death, I admire his patience and affection for her until his death. Both of his daughters, Nicola and Brigit, live in New Jersey, USA.
