Tripp Whitener Obituary, Death – Tripp Whitener of Columbia, South Carolina has died. Tripp was Nails Shockers Baseball coach and player. He worked at First Horizon Bank. Tripp studied Political Economy and Philosophy at Wofford College. According to an online publications; However, I choose to remember Tripp Whitener for the previous 51 years as a family man, an excellent father, and a community leader. He went through a challenging year after suffering a stroke, to say the least; however, I choose to remember him as a family man. On a more personal note, his legacy for me will be competing against The Tough as Nails Shockers Baseball Organization, which he ran with a lot of passion and which produced a lot of really good players. This will be his lasting contribution to the sport.
Back in the summer of 2010, Tripp Whitener dialed my number and we had a brief conversation. He asked if I would be willing to assist him in coaching the boys on the team that he was putting together in order to participate in the summer baseball league that was being hosted by the YMCA. We spent a few very hot weeks at Owens Field with a dozen or so first graders who would later become college freshmen and we called them The Scrappers. Kevin Lindler and Carter Weston were also a part of this experience, and the three of us worked together.
Our objective was to impart upon them some knowledge concerning the game that he took such pleasure in playing. Tripp is the person who stood in the coach’s box with a clipboard, insisted on excellence from the boys despite their young age, and managed to keep the activity enjoyable for all of us. This is something I will never forget about Tripp. In addition to being a fellow Gamecock and comrade in arms, Tripp was a reliable poker partner of mine. Good sir, I hope you get some rest. I will miss seeing your face every day.
